Were you aware that your happiness is linked to your ability to your feelings of authenticity? To be genuinely authentic in your own life is to feel ultimately at home within your own body, accepted among your friends and remain true to your sense of values and morals.
It is the ability to remain confident and hold your head high based solely on you who are, without relying on your ability to prove your self-worth to others. When the world feels like it is placing an undue amount of stress on you, authenticity is your ability to remain true through your struggles to your character, spirit, and personality.
The experience of true authenticity is that moment in which you genuinely feel that all is right in the world. You aren’t focused on thinking about any one thing – your thoughts aren’t occupied by what you have to do that day, incidents that recently occurred in life or any specific task at hand. You are just there, in that moment, experiencing the joy that comes with being alive.
Here is how to feel that pure, authentic version of self each and every day:
Self-Actualization: You Are Enough
You are your most important guide in this life, and you need to learn to trust and embrace your own intuition and gut instincts. With this comes the ability to acknowledge that while the world may pressure you to change, grow and become someone ‘better’, the truth is you are enough exactly as you are at this moment. This realizing is powerful and can be acknowledged as a significant step towards a higher level of consciousness.
Give Your Imagination a Much-Needed Break
We live in a culture that is always thinking about the next step, planning ahead for the house, days, months and years to come. We are focused on always knowing what to expect and how to act, rather than embracing the infinite possibilities that the Universe has to offer us. While you may find it uncomfortable to not have a plan, there is something genuinely freeing about allowing yourself to remain open to what is to come without projecting your own preferred scenarios onto your future.
Allow Yourself to Slow Life Down
We live in a world where we are ALWAYS on the go. With the fast paced society we live in, there is no such thing as true relaxation. Even vacation time and relax time is occupied by smartphones and social media. Instead, carve time out in your day to just slow life down. Practice meditation or yoga, or allow yourself to be immersed in nature. Even the actual of taking a walk through a park or forest nearby, focusing on nothing more than enjoying the environment that surrounds you at the moment, will help you practice mindfulness. Recall the moments in your life in which you felt relaxed and ‘zen’ as these are moments in which you were subconsciously practicing mindfulness, and work to apply this actively to your life.
Admit that You Don’t Know Often
Whether you are doing so outwardly to others, or merely to yourself, there is such power in admitting when you do not know all the answers. The fact is that we don’t have all the answers, and we are putting an incredible amount of pressure on ourselves in our attempts to always have the magic answer to everything. Even within our areas of expertise, it is OK to say ‘I don’t know.’ Ask any artist, writer, musician or creative individual and they will tell you that they must first stop and listen to their inner muse before the true answers are revealed to them!
Embrace the Higher Truth that Comes from Mindfulness
The journey towards a higher consciousness can be undertaken at any age or life stage, however in order to do so, one must embrace their true and authentic thoughts at their current stage while continuing to grow and challenge their own habits as they dig deeper. Stillness is an important part of this journey, bringing about creativity, wisdom, and inspiration.
Attempt to Keep Your Thoughts Linear
The circular thinking that comes from attempting to solve questions with more questions genuinely meets Einstein’s definition of insanity. There are a variety of different levels of thinking, from the most basic to the highest wisdom. Rather than being trapped in circular thinking, allow yourself time to react responsibly by being active in your thought process. Don’t allow your actions to be careless and spontaneous.
You are Not Your Thoughts
It is important, as you focus on digging deeper and retraining your thought process, to remember that your thoughts do not define who you are. The most genuine, blissful moments of your life are the ones in which you are void of thought, allowing yourself to merely be in the moment, such as a sunrise, the smile of a child, or becoming lost in the sound of a bird singing. Rather than defining your life by the thoughts that come from your brain, allow your brain to receive the consciousness that surrounds you in your daily activities.
